Now based in California, with roots in The Burren region of Co.Clare, Mike Considine is a self-taught musician who plays by ear and has an intuitive knowledge of melody, harmony, rhythm and syncopation.
Mike spent 13 years in New Zealand where he was an integral member of the groups Rua, Claddagh and The Wylde Takafoleys. He recorded numerous projects with many of New Zealand’s finest musicians including cutting edge producer, Jody Lloyd (Trillion). Together they produced “Bazuki Joe” – an Irish / Pacifica hybrid sound and Mike won two New Zealand music awards for his work with Claddagh and flautist, Brendyn Montgomery.
He returned to live and perform in Galway during his NZ sojourn in 1994, 97, 99 and 2000. During this time he appeared at numerous festivals, concerts and sessions with some of Irelands finest traditional musicians including Dermot Byrne, Brian McGrath, Sean Smyth, Alan Kelly and Sharon Shannon.
On his return to New Zealand Mike studied event management and went on to direct several prestigious events including the world premier of “The Lord of the Rings, Return of the King” in Wellington. He co-created the NZ Events Industry conference, “Eventing the Future” and taught event management and music on a tertiary level.
2005 brought him back home, to his family hometown of Kinvara, a fishing village on Galway Bay. He pursued his love for photography, music and writing and set up a website business for creative practitioners called Creativesitepro.
He toured NZ with TG4 Gradam Ceoil winner John Carty and aided John in the production of his CD, “I Will If I Can” and attended the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at Limerick University part time, where he gained his MA in Irish Music performance and taught bouzouki to the BA students.
Mike moved to New York in 2009 and played concerts and sessions with Cormac Breatnach, Cillian Vallely, Ivan Goff and Tony De Marco. He is currently writing & working on a solo strings project in California.
